💪 Introduction
Some days you want a class that makes you feel strong again.
Some days you want a class that makes you feel like yourself again.
And some days? You want both, without anyone pretending that everyone starts from the same place.
This Wednesday session is exactly that: a sporty, adaptable workout that builds strength and confidence and then gives your body (and brain) the stretch-and-unwind moment it deserves.
And yes, there will be music. Quentin’s words: “Music.” (Mostly 80s. You’ve been warned.)
Why our ALGSO Muscle Strengthening and Pilates in Merl Class is Perfect for Cancer Warriors:
This session is designed for people who want to move again safely, without pressure, without ego, and without pretending that they feel amazing every day.
ALGSO coach, Quentin Bentz, is very clear about his role: he’s not here for “fitness entertainment”.
He teaches movement so people can confidently and safely continue to exercise by themselves. He’s an adapted physical activity teacher specialised in health, meaning he’s trained to help people move safely when the body has been through a lot.
So the point isn’t to “push through pain” or do things just because the group is doing them. The point is the opposite: to move in a way that doesn’t create new problems, while still giving you a real training effect.
The goal is that it doesn’t create new problems.
Quentin Bentz – ALGSO coach
And Quentin doesn’t just adapt to the body, he adapts to the person.
He specifically checks in about pain and emotional state, because “emotional state influences motivation.”
That’s the kind of coaching that actually fits real life.
What is it?
It’s a 1h30 session with two clear parts… and one very optional (but very loved) bonus.
This is the “let’s get you feeling strong again” block. Quentin keeps it sporty, structured, and simple, often using a circuit format where everyone rotates through exercises.
He explains it like this:
I give everyone an exercise and every 45 seconds we rotate and each person takes the next exercise.

It’s not complicated for the sake of being complicated. Quentin sticks to basic, effective movements that can be repeated outside the class too without having to spend money on props and gear.
So expect things like squats, core work and stability exercises, always adjusted to how people are feeling that day, because not everyone arrives with the same body or the same energy.
Quentin is very honest about the label. When he says “Pilates”, what he really means is a big focus on stretching, mobility, and releasing tension, especially in the back.
What I call Pilates is more stretching… stretching and mobility. It’s not THE Pilates method.

Think: loosening up, opening space, getting your body to breathe again.
That thing where you feel your shoulders drop and your spine says “thank you”.
At the end, Quentin offers a short 10 minute relaxation moment: calm, quiet, and focused.
But he also gets that not everyone loves relaxation (or has the attention span for it, no judgement):
It’s not mandatory… some people don’t like it, so I let them leave when they want.

So in short: this class builds strength and gives you room to soften afterwards.
A session that helps your body work, then helps your mind exhale. If you’re looking for something that makes you feel stronger and a little lighter, this is it.
Why it helps both: body and mind
Quentin puts it simply: he doesn’t separate body and mind.
He explains that, when the body is stimulated, automatically, so is the mind.
Physically, this class supports strength, stability, and confidence in movement.
The kind you need for daily life, not just the gym.
Mentally, it’s also a reset button. You might walk into the class with a million thoughts, or feeling blue, but you’ll walk out feeling happy and refreshed.
And yes, the vibe very much matters. Quentin knows the mental side of illness is huge:
They come for the effect it has on their mind more than anything… They know it’s a breath of fresh air every week.
Quentin Bentz – ALGSO coach
So you’re not just “working out”. You’re giving yourself a weekly moment where you show up, do something for you, and leave feeling a bit more ready for everything else.
What makes this class special?
Quentin doesn’t demand a medical biography. He asks how you are, what hurts, and how you feel, then adapts accordingly.
No “buy this equipment” pressure.
You don’t have to do it “like everyone”. Quentin is very insistent on the importance of respecting that everyone is different.
Quentin can make it easier or harder, depending on what you need on the day.
Music, questionable humour, and a coach who talks (a lot).
What to Expect in This Class
The rhythm is structured and reassuring, with Quentin always reading the room to ensure equal parts of work-out and fun.
Typically you’ll have:
Quentin moves around the room to correct and adapt.
I walk around, I watch them… When I see someone doing nonsense, I tease them and then I correct them.
Quentin Bentz – ALGSO coach
It’s direct, but it’s friendly and it keeps you safe.
🎤 Meet the Coach
Quentin Bentz
Quentin brings big energy, his own special humour and confidence in spades, all with a genuinely warm “you’re safe here” atmosphere.
If you like your workouts with a side of questionable banter, music, and a coach who treats you like a human being (and not a fitness robot), Quentin is your person.
