What to Expect in This Geesseknäppchen Class

Class Structure

Each coach brings their own style and approach. Here’s how Petz structures her sessions:

Arrival: Participants arrive at their own pace. Some begin warming up solo on the cardio machines.

Group Warm-Up: For those present at the start, a 5–10 min light warm-up with music.

Optional: 10 mins on the bikes

Strength Training: Use of the available machines with guidance, posture corrections, and encouragement or exercises on mats (adapted to individual needs).

Cool-Down: a final session of stretching to calm the body and close the session.

You might also find:

Small circuit stations or exercises with fitballs

Balance, coordination & reflex exercises (e.g. towel work)

Core work, planks, posture training

One-on-one guidance for new exercises

Lots of chatting when Cloé is around!

Coaches rotate weekly, so participants benefit from different perspectives while still enjoying continuity and care.

Participants also receive personal tracking sheets to note their progress — from the weight lifted to the exercises completed — so they can see how far they’ve come over the last 8-10 sessions.

Adaptability

Whether you’re feeling energised or tired, the class adapts to you:

Come in your sports clothes (no changing rooms)

Do what you can, even half a class has benefits

Use the machines or join the group warm-up/stretch only

Participants are free to do whatever suits them best. If you feel like a little more “me-time” that day, skip the group warm-up and head straight to the machines to do your own thing.
If you feel like you need connection, empathy, understanding and to talk, then go for it!

In this “Fitness and Strength Training at Geesseknäppchen” class, our coaches are there for you, whether it’s motivating you when you lack the energy, listening to how your week went while providing gentle corrections, or giving you the space to take that cross-trainer to town.

Versatility and adaptability are the two main themes of this class!

Whether you’re dealing with long-term fatigue, joint issues, or simply having an off day, the coaches are here to help you move safely and confidently.

Everyone is encouraged to go at their own pace, and the community atmosphere is what makes it extra special. There’s always music playing, lots of laughing, and a sense of solidarity that lifts everyone up.

The Social Side

This class is about connection as much as it is about fitness:

Friendly faces and familiar voices each week

Multilingual environment

Mutual support across all ages and backgrounds

The social benefits of our ALGSO classes are the unsung heroes of complementary cancer therapies and post-cancer recovery. The support and energy you receive from our members is unlike anything you’ve experienced before.

They are all there for a reason. They have gone through, or are going through something very similar and know the importance of not being alone if you don’t want to be.

Talk to any of our ALGSO members and you will always hear the same themes coming back:
“ALGSO is my second family.”
“ALGSO is the family I chose for myself.”
“I have made lifelong friends here at ALGSO.”

There is a reason and inexplicable magic behind all of that and it manifests itself in our events and ALGSO classes, where members come together in community and vibrate with energy, love and understanding (and a side of goofiness!).

Thursdays Are for the Gents: A Dedicated Men’s Session

At ALGSO, we know that cancer affects everyone, but not always in the same way. Over the years, we’ve heard from oncologists, doctors, and most importantly, our members themselves, that some men are looking for something a little different in their recovery journey.

That’s why we’ve introduced a men-only fitness and strength training session, held every Thursday evening at the Campus Geesseknäppchen in Merl.

This isn’t about dividing or excluding, far from it.
It’s about creating the right space for the right support.
It’s a direct response to a growing call for targeted sport and movement options for men affected by cancer, and an opportunity to focus on the kinds of exercises, rhythms and goals that feel most meaningful and motivating to them.

Whether it’s strength training, endurance, or simply moving again in a supportive space that understands your experience, this session is designed for you.

So if you’re a man living with or beyond cancer, and looking for a class that’s tailored to your pace, your goals, and your comfort zone, come try it out. We’re always listening, and always adapting to what our community needs.
