💪 Introduction
Why our ALGSO Advanced Running Group is Perfect for Cancer Warriors:
Where Motivation Meets Community
Our Advanced Running group at Campus Geesseknäppchen is for members who want to challenge themselves, maintain their running routine, or simply enjoy movement and laughter with like-minded people. You don’t need to be a star marathoner, you just need to enjoy running and being part of something joyful.
This group trains together once a week in Luxembourg City, and yes, we run in every weather. Rain? Snow? Dark at 6pm? Still running. That’s how committed (and fun) this crew is.
This group is VERY motivated. We laugh, we run, and no one gets left behind.

Even in the snow or minus 10 degrees – we run, unless there’s a heatwave, then we adapt with a forest walk.

What to Expect from this Advanced Running Group
The Route & Session
I always try to make them stretch before we go. Even if they want to shoot off immediately, I remind them that ‘we’re not 20 anymore!’ and make them warm up their hips and knees!

The path is scenic, mostly flat, and changes slightly depending on conditions (or season…*cough*…Christmas Market pit stop…*cough*).
Everyone Included
The route is about 8km and the group usually completes it in 1hr 15mins, so you do need to bear that in mind.
But this really is a group run. A group of highly motivated, very inspiring members who are committed to maintaining their level while having fun.
You’ll have people chatting together, encouraging each other and motivating each other, resulting in the whole group moving forwards, riding the high of community sport.
We have some members who come to these classes with a strong goal, like the ING marathon, but otherwise, most of the members are just there with the idea of: “we’re here, we run, we have a good time”.

The Group Dynamic
This isn’t just a running group — it’s a running family. People cheer each other on, share life updates, and sometimes turn runs into impromptu celebrations:
I once ran into one of them at the Christmas market while with friends. We took a selfie and sent it to the group. That’s the kind of bond we have.

It’s really a group of friends, they chat, laugh, support each other. And even outside of the class, they stay in touch.

🎤 Meet the Coaches
Patricia “Petz” Heinen
Full of spark, energy and empathy, Petz is a sports therapist with a background in oncology, psychology, music, and the arts. She brings creativity and flexibility to every session — and sometimes, her certified companion dog Daya joins the fun!
Kévin Laumond
Kévin Laumond is one of those coaches who brings consistency, warmth, and a quiet but solid drive into every class he leads. With a background in Adapted Physical Activity and Health from Nancy, France, his mission is simple: make movement accessible and enjoyable for everybody
Unexpected Stars: Daya the Dog & Merlin the Mascot 🐾
This group has two four-legged mascots:
Daya, Petz’s certified companion dog

She joins most sessions (unless Petz is on babysitting duty) and is loved by all. The runners bring her treats, and she runs along with a smile and her signature happy bounce.
If I come without her, they ask: ‘Where is she?! I get told off!
Petz Heinen – ALGSO coach for the Advanced Running Group
She helps set the tone: calm, natural, and joyful.
Daya doesn’t play a role. She’s always herself. That’s what I try to be too.

And:
Merlin, Kévin’s cuddly white Swiss Shepherd

Merlin, Kévin’s loyal and attention-loving running partner often joins the class as a beloved part of the team. He brings tail wags, motivation and a lot of love.
The runners absolutely love him and he loves them too. He’s a little mascot and LOVES the cuddles and attention.

Mindful that Merlin’s size might scare people, he always makes sure to check with participants first if they’re OK with him.
I’m always careful, if someone tells me that they’re scared of dogs, I keep Merlin away, but I’ve never had the case.”

❓ Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to be fast to join?
Not at all! This is not a competition. It’s about movement, joy, and running safely together.
Is there a beginner group?
Unfortunately not. Feel free to reach out to our coaches for some advice if you’re unsure about joining the class.
Generally, the main thing to remember is this:
When you can run around 8 km in 1 hour 15, you’ll be ready for our Advanced Running group!
Are the classes safe for my condition?
Yes! Our coaches are there for you every step of the way, to reassure, answer any questions and make sure no one falls behind.
If you are worried or unsure, don’t hesitate to reach out to us at the ALGSO, and we can provide all the information you need, or give you the contact details of our coach so you can have a little chat. 😉
Is it okay if I can’t keep up?
Yes. The group is structured so the coach is always at the back, and advanced runners loop back. You’ll never be left behind.
However, given the group aspect of this run, we do recommend making sure that you’re comfortable with 8km in 1h 15mins.
“If someone only runs once a month or needs to learn how to breathe or pace themselves, we suggest training a little bit before joining this group.” Kévin Laumond – ALGSO coach for the Advanced Running Group
Can I come just once to try it?
Absolutely. Come once and see if it suits you.
Are the dogs always there?
Often, yes. But let us know if you have allergies or concerns — we’re happy to adapt.
What language is the class given in?
It will vary based on which coach is leading the group, and when the running starts, there isn’t a great need for explanations from the coach.
Our coaches combined speak French, German, English, Luxembourgish and a hint of Spanish.
What do I need to bring?
– Running clothes suitable for weather (this group always runs)
– Reflective gear, a headlamp or frontal light (important in winter)
In order to become an ALGSO member, you will need a medical certificate from your doctor, certifying that you are able to do sports. Read more here.
