Broschtkriibslaf 2026: Your ALGSO Guide to the Day

A Broschtkriibslaf 2026 ALGSO Guide Blog cover with the text: Broschtkriibslaf 2026: Your ALGSO Guide to the Day

Broschtkriibslaf 2026: everything you need to know (and how to walk or run it with us)

Pink shoes at the ready: the Broschtkriibslaf 2026 is almost here, and Team ALGSO will be right in the middle of it.

On Saturday 3 October 2026, from 8:30am to 12:00pm, the beautiful Parc de Hesperange will be filled with pink for one of Luxembourg’s most heartfelt mornings: a walk and run organised by Europa Donna Luxembourg to raise awareness on breast cancer and support everyone affected by it. That very date also just so happens to open Pink October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month, so there is no better way (or indeed, a more typical ALGSO way) to start the month than by moving for the cause.

Whether you have taken part before or you are eyeing your very first start line, this guide walks you through everything: what the Broschtkriibslaf is, why taking part matters, how to sign up with Team ALGSO (we cover your entry fee), and how to feel ready on the day.

What is the Broschtkriibslaf?

The Broschtkriibslaf (“breast cancer run” in Luxembourgish) is an annual charity walk and run held in Hesperange. It is organised by Europa Donna Luxembourg, the country’s breast cancer advocacy association, founded in 2002 and recognised as being of public utility.

It is not a competition. You can walk it or run it (or hey, why not dance it?), on your own or surrounded by a team of friends, family or colleagues. Every participant is there for the same reason: to stand with those affected by breast cancer, to raise awareness, and to support Europa Donna’s work in prevention, screening and patient care.

Why taking part matters (and why ALGSO is there)

At ALGSO, movement is at the heart of everything we do, because staying active is one of the most powerful things you can do for your body and mind before, during and after cancer. Gentle, regular activity can help ease the fatigue and low mood that so often follow treatment, help rebuild strength and confidence, and support long-term wellbeing.
(For those of you just joining in now, read more on this topic in our “5 Ways Exercise Helps with Cancer Recovery” article here.)

The Broschtkriibslaf brings that belief to life in the best way: hundreds of people moving together for a cause that touches so many of us. Awareness saves lives. Early detection saves lives. And community, that feeling of not facing any of this alone, carries people through the hardest days. That is exactly what ALGSO stands for, so being part of this morning feels like coming home.

You do not need to be fast, fit or experienced. You only need the willingness to show up and move in whatever way feels right for you.

Getting ready: gentle preparation tips

You do not need a training plan worthy of a marathon. You just need to feel comfortable and confident on the day. Here is how.

Start where you are

Begin with short walks of 15 to 20 minutes, two or three times a week, and build up gently. If you feel strong, add a minute or two of light jogging here and there. The golden rule: listen to your body, not your stopwatch.

Keep it steady, not intense

Consistency beats intensity every time. A few relaxed sessions a week will do far more good than one exhausting push. Always warm up before and stretch afterwards, and never skip your rest days. Recovery is part of training, especially if you are managing treatment side effects.

Fuel, hydrate, rest

Sip water through the day, eat a light snack before you move, and give yourself at least one full rest day a week. Your body is doing something wonderful; support it kindly.

If you are returning from treatment

Be extra gentle with yourself. Speak to your GP, physiotherapist or oncology nurse before starting, use short intervals, and celebrate every single step. Our ALGSO coaches are always happy to help you find a comfortable way back into movement, just ask.

Preparing your heart and mind

A day like this can stir up all kinds of emotions, especially if cancer has touched your life or someone you love. Excitement, nerves, grief, pride, all of it is welcome. There is no right way to feel and no wrong way to take part.

Hold on to your “why”, whether it is honouring someone, celebrating your own recovery, supporting a friend or simply caring about the cause. And lean on the people around you. On the day, you will be surrounded by a warm, understanding crowd, and by the ALGSO family, who truly get it.

Getting there

The Broschtkriibslaf takes place at the Centre Joseph Altmann, 9 rue de Bettembourg, L-5870 Hesperange, in the leafy Parc de Hesperange.

Hesperange is well connected by bus from Luxembourg City, and there is parking nearby. Arrive early to settle in, pick up your bib and find the ALGSO stand. Check mobiliteit.lu for the latest Saturday bus times closer to the day.

If you have accessibility needs, mobility considerations or any questions, contact our ALGSO secretariat in advance and we will do our best to support you.

Race-day checklist

Wear: comfortable, breathable layers, and something pink! (Bonus points for proudly wearing ALGSO clothes). October in Luxembourg can be sunshine and drizzle in the same hour, so bring a light waterproof jacket.

Feet: properly fitted, broken-in walking or running shoes. Never try new shoes on the day (unless you are being sponsored by a company specialising in plasters for blisters…).

Bring: a refillable water bottle, a small snack, a charged phone (for photos and to tag us), and tissues, because emotions and sweat may both flow.

Arrive early: give yourself time to find Team ALGSO, take a group photo and soak up the atmosphere.

Your beautiful self: our photographer will be present to cover the event and can’t wait to capture all of your beautiful souls!

After the day

Cross the line, breathe it in, and celebrate, whatever “finishing” looked like for you, you showed up and moved for something that matters. Grab a recovery snack, hug someone, and take photos if you like. We would love to see them: tag us on Instagram and Facebook, and keep an eye on our photo gallery afterwards.

And if this is the start of something for you, keep it going. Have a look at our weekly classes, from fitness and yoga to Nordic walking and aquagym. There is a place for you all year round.

One last thing…
